SAE Super Mileage Competition

Over 30 teams from the U.S., Canada, India and Bahrain participated in the SAE's annual mileage competition June 7-8, 2007 in Marshall, Michigan. The competition requires the development and construction of a single person, fuel efficient vehicle. All vehicles must be powered by a small four-cycle engine, have a minimum of three wheels, and the driver must be fully enclosed to prevent contact with the ground. The winner is based on a combination of best fuel economy and points from technical inspections of the vehicles. The 2006 winner, the University of British Columbia, achieved a record 3,145 miles per gallon!

Distracted Driving Awareness Week

SYNC drivers stay more focused on the road. Study shows that talking and listening while driving - such as placing a phone call through SYNC™ voice commands - was not riskier than just driving and two-and-a-half times less risky than manually dialing while driving.

DEARBORN, Mich., June 4 - As the National Safety Council turns the country's attention to distracted driving next week, the Ford Sync™ in-car communications and entertainment system continues gaining popularity as one of the most advanced answers yet to the distractions nearly 190 million Americans encounter as they talk on cell phones while driving.

A recent Nationwide Insurance Company survey found that more than 80 percent of mobile phone owners said they talk on the phone while driving, and 40 percent of teen and 20-something American mobile phone owners admitted to composing and sending text messages while driving. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed that distracted driving causes 80 percent of road accidents.

In light of mounting evidence that the nation's novice drivers are endangering themselves and others, the National Safety Council has designated June 9-13 "Distracted Driving Awareness Week," as part of National Safety Month (http://www.nsc.org/nsm/).

Ford is helping to reduce potential driver distraction through ongoing research and the development of hands-free, voice-activated technologies such as Ford SYNC™. The system was developed in part based on research from its state-of-the-art driving simulator that was used to examine the factors that lead to distraction. Ford, working with the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, used this research to help develop distraction guidelines for new telematics and infotainment systems.

Watch the Warranty!

I have been trying to use this source to provide useful information. This latest information comes from something that happened to one of our service customers.

I'm sure most of you have recieved a letter telling you that the warranty on one of your vehicles is about to expire,and offering you the opportunity to purchase and extended warranty on that vehicle.

Our customer recieved such a letter and purchased a warranty which cost over $3,000.00. Last week there was a problem with the vehicle,and it was brought in for service. After the concerns were evaluated,and an estimate prepared a call was placed to the claims department of the warranty company.

After more than one hour on hold the call was abandoned to be placed again the next day. The owner of the vehicle also called,and was able to reach a person in there customer service department,who informed them that all of the warranty companies assets were frozen,and no claimes were being accepted.

If you are considering purchasing a warranty take the time to make sure that the warranty you purchase will be there when you have a claim.

While I was watching TV recently I saw a Firestone Tire advertisement that caught my attention. Mario Andretti was holding a tire air pressure gauge,and saying that this gauge was an important saftey feature that every vehicle should have.What Mario was refering to was the fact that low air pressure or incorrect tire inflation can contribute to tire failure,shortened tread life,and reduced fuel mileage.The air pressure in the tires of all vehicles should be checked and corrected if needed once a month making the tire pressure gauge very important.If you are like most people even if you have a pressure gauge you do not have a source for air to correct tire pressure when the need is found with your gauge.We can help with that by having some one check your tire pressure and correct as needed at no charge to you.Just stop by The Beshore and Koller Service Department monday thru friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM .
